×Hello,
I am trying to move our company to use plans for execution planning. The developers set Original Estimate on all issues, aggregating nicely to the Stories and Epics.
But when planning using the timeline gannt (clicking on the gannt) or setting the start date the end date isn't calculated from the estimation. It sets a timeframe of 30 days without reason.
Without using estimates, I don't find a reason for that field, and it is very hard to plan using the plan feature.
Is there a way to use the estimates to calculate end dates?
From the answer here, I understand it doesn't work that way and that the default time duration of a task is based on the time granularity of the gantt, so it will look good.
Poor decision, If a user filled the time estimation the duration should be calculated by default by that, anyhow the user will change the default 7d/30d value, why not use the one truth you have - end date = start date + businessDays(estimates)
Hello @Yoav Ben Arie (Zynga)
Based on my understanding, Jira Plans should ideally calculate target end dates using original estimates and start dates.
If the system defaults to arbitrary durations like 30 days, it might indicate a misconfiguration in the timeline settings.
Check if the estimation field is correctly mapped and that dependencies are set up for accurate calculations.

Does it work that way for you?
