How to show user name on cards instead of full name?

In Greenhopper I would like to use the user name instead of the full name when showing e.g. assignee on the cards. Is this possible?

I have been able to achive this in other Jira views by messing with the .vm template files but I cannot figure out if the same is possible with Greenhopper cards.

is this question still relevant with the release of the Rapid Boards in Greenhopper?
A solution for your problem can be achieved by using the Speakeasy extension. This enables you to inject Javascript in specific pages so you can change these values using JQuery and REST calls. (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/375213)
