Hi @Vadiraj Joish

I would check first:

  • Custom Fields: This is where the default Description for a field is kept
  • Field Configurations: This is where a new Description can be added (which overrides the default)

Note: You'll need to be a Jira Admin for both checks.

---

Custom Fields

Check the Custom Field's default Description, and see if it matches this.

  • Go to Jira Admin (cog icon in top-right) > Issues
  • Select Custom Fields from the left-hand menu
  • Search for this Custom Field - "Team"
  • Select the Actions button (3-dots icon on right-hand side) > Edit
  • Check/Change the Description field; press Update to save

Note: If you change this field's description here and the field is used within other Projects/screens that also use the default description, it'll change there too.

---

Field Configuration

Check the Field Configuration for your Project, and see if the Description for this field is modified here.

  • Go to Jira Admin (cog icon in top-right) > Issues
  • Select Field Configurations from the left-hand menu
  • Locate the Field Configuration relevant to your Project and/or Issue Type
  • Search for this field - "Team"
    • You can use Ctrl/Cmnd + F if required
  • On the right-hand side, select Edit
  • Check/Change the Description field; press Update to save

Note: Similar to the above, if the Field Configuration is used on multiple Projects, modifying the description here will impact those Projects too.

---

A few extra notes...

  • You could create a new Field Configuration/Field Configuration Scheme if required, if the new modification to this field should only impact your Project.
  • If you're unsure what Field Configuration you are using, go to your Project Settings > Fields, and locate it here.

---

Let us know if either of these work for you!

Ste

Thank you. The solution helped me to update the description.

HI @Vadiraj Joish and welcome to the community,

It seems to me that you are working on jira server. In this case

  • I would go to project > project settings
  • ("Issues" if you are on jira cloud and then ) Fields > Locate your issue type > Click pencil icon
  • Search for your field > Edit
  • Click update

Make sure that the field configuration you are editing is not shared. If it is shared the description will change for all project which shares this field config.

Let me know if that helps.

Hi @Alex Koxaras _Relational_  @Stephen Wright _Elabor8_

I have gone through your suggestion on this. but We use the data center. Here we can see in our instance the Team field is locked and tried through custom fields and field configuration. But could not find any edit option.

So could you please suggest on this if there is any way to have a a edit field so that we can edit and have a description.

Thanks
