I want to receive an email notification when someone makes a comment on any Jira ticket created. How do I do that?

Hello @Emily Parker

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Can you tell us about the problem you are trying to solve with that change?

Notifications are typically managed by a Notifications configuration associated to a project. That configuration uses Events to decide when to send notifications, and each configurable event can be set to notify specified parties like the issue Reporter, Assignee, and Watchers.

The Notifications configuration for Company Managed projects are managed by Jira Administrators.

The Notifications for Team Managed projects are managed by the Project Administrator of the project.

You would need to confer with the Jira (or Project) Administrators to find out how the Notifications are configured for the projects of interest to you.

It may be that you could add yourself as a watcher on each issue in order to receive those notifications.

However, this could ultimately result in a flood of email notifications. So again I would go back to my first question and ask, what problem are you actually trying to solve?

The problem I am trying to solve is seeing what people are commenting on the issues. I want to be notified (via email) each time there's a comment. Is there a way to make me a "watcher" on every issue?

If you have been granted the Make Bulk Changes global permission then you can use issue searching/filtering to get a list of issues you want to watch and then use the Bulk Change function to add yourself as a watcher of the specified issues.

That does not necessarily mean you will get emails for the comments. Whether or not emails are sent when comments are added and to whom they are sent is determined by the Notifications configuration for the project.

Also, becoming a Watcher on issues may result in you getting other email notifications, not only notifications for Comments.
