HTTP Error code 401 when trying to create an issue using REST API and Basic Auth

Hi,

I am trying to create a Jira issue on a hosted server using REST API and Basic authentication but I receive error code 401. Reading issues work but not creating.

Reading this endpoint works: /rest/api/2/issue/createmeta

Writing to this one results in a 401:  /rest/api/2/issue 

What is causing this error?
