Duplicating the Environment field.

Our Testers want to have a custom field called Environment (Single Select) that reflects the different testing environments our organisation has (Development, Testing, QA, Performace & Production).

But i am also aware of the existing the system field Environment (text field).

Do you think these 2 fields could live without too much conflict?

Jira does not restrict administrators from creating new custom fields with duplicate names. However, it will likely confuse the users who utilize JQL query and filter and the administrator who manages the fields and screens.

As a best practice, having a unique field name for the custom field is still better, even if the custom fields have a different field type.
