Hi -
I'm looking for the best method to transfer a single Jira project from one org to another. I've been looking at the new Data Migration tool:
https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/copy-jira-data/
However, I have some questions on the process as I want to ensure users & data not in that project are not moved over. Has anyone used this tool before and had success?
The documentation indicates that users are transferred. That might be a significant number of users. Is there a way to do this without user migration and just have the project data? There is a privacy aspect of this as content is going from one company to another.
I tried the issues filter export but that didn't seem to import to the new space as expected.
Thanks
Hi Craig - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
I use the Revyz Data Configuration Manager for Jira app and it does a great job for this exact thing. You can do a free trial, make the move and be done with it.

I went with Luka's solution, but also accepting as an answer as using a 3rd party tool seems to be the best method to do this task.

Hi @Craig O_Neill and welcome to the community!
If you just want to transfer individual projects or issues between different Jira Cloud instances, you can try our app Deep Clone for Jira. With the Instance Clone feature, you can decide which project you want to clone and what data of the issues should be included. Deep Clone won't clone any users.

Hi Luka -
Thanks. Do you have a demo video? Or can I schedule a demo?

We don't have a polished demo yet for Instance Clone, but I quickly recorded a video for you.
We also have an extensive documentation and if you have problems you also can always contact our support :)

Hi @Craig O_Neill the Data Migration tool for a single project might be a bit of a sledgehammer for a nut.
Are you doing this using Jira Cloud? If so this thread might be helpful: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/How-can-I-move-copy-a-project-from-one-JIRA-account-to-a/qaq-p/2299328
Let me know if that's helpful or if it doesn't do the trick for you.

I looked at that article first. Unfortunately, Atlassian has replaced that option with the Data Migration tool:
Jira cloud-to-cloud migration is now available at admin.atlassian.com along with Confluence cloud-to-cloud migrations in a unified experience. You need to be an organization administrator to access this feature. Go to admin.atlassian.com and navigate to Settings > Data Management > Copy product data
I agree with your analogy of a bit of a sledgehammer for a nut, but I don't see another option tbh.
