Hello everyone!
I'm hoping some jira genius out there can help me...
I have created a custom field called "Finance Approver" that is a user picker (single) with a filter so that only users that are a part of the Finance Approvers group show up when I try to chose a user - great!
To make the user experience easier (and help adoption) in forms and in issues I wanted to set the primary approver by default, however I am unable to set a default value for the user picker. When I try to edit the default value it tells me to type and it will show options, however typing a name of someone in the group (or their accountId) nothing shows up.
I've tried just typing the full name and just typing the accountId and pushing submit but it doesn't actually do anything.
Am I missing something? I couldn't find anything online that told me whether I could or couldn't do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
G'day Nathan Winspear,
Trust you are doing great,

I understand that you are not able to add the default value of the single-user picker custom field Finance Approver.
In case my understanding is correct, to apply the Default Value and the User Filtering you will need to add the projects in the context of the custom field. With this, Jira will be able to narrow down the users to be shown in the user picker drop-down. I have added the project People Hub in the context of the custom field and now the users are shown in the default value screen by typing some letters of the user name.
For your reference, I am attaching the documentation related to the custom field contexts below:
Are you sure the user you're trying to select is in the "Finance Approvers" Group? You can only select a user as the default that is in a Group included in the user filtering.
I tested this; I tried a Group...
If you're sure they are in the Group, you could try removing the user filtering and then see if the default selector starts working?

Hi Stephen, thank you also for a quick response! I am definitely a member of the group, I have now tried removing the user filtering and still no options show when I start typing my name or any other name in the company. Typing a full name out also does not work. I've attached some screenshots to show what I've got setup.

Hi Nathan - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
I just tested it in my instance, and everything worked fine. Maybe try with a different browser or with Incognito mode?

Hi John, thank you for your quick response! I've tried with a fresh chrome profile and an incognito window and I'm still unable to select a user.

I suggest you open a support ticket with Atlassian then to see if they can figure it out.
