Completed Sprint Does Not Recognize Completed Tasks

When I mark a sprint complete full of 100% green done tasks most of which were completed before the end of the sprint, the tasks are considered "Open"  and aren't moved. I tried all the done statuses we have available and none of them work.

How can I fix this.

Hi Benjamin - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

While the tasks might be marked as Done, they are not considered to be completed on a Sprint board unless they are in the last column of the board (far right) regardless of the status.

Hey Benjamin,

It sounds like Jira isn't recognizing your completed tasks properly when closing the sprint. This usually happens due to one of the following reasons:

1️⃣ The "Done" status isn't in the last column of the board

  • In Jira, tasks are only considered fully completed if their status is in the rightmost column of the board.
  • Go to Board settings > Columns and ensure that all "Done" statuses are mapped to the last column.

2️⃣ The workflow isn't correctly configured for "Done" statuses

  • Some statuses might look like "Done," but Jira doesn't treat them as completed if they don’t have a resolution set.
  • Check ⚙ Jira Settings > Issues > Workflows and ensure that the final status has a resolution other than "Unresolved."

3️⃣ Tasks don’t have a resolution assigned

  • Jira considers an issue closed only if it has a valid Resolution (e.g., "Done," "Fixed," "Resolved").
  • You may need to add the Resolution field to the transition when moving tasks to "Done."

4️⃣ Try closing the sprint from the backlog

  • Instead of closing it from the board, try going to Backlog > Sprint > Complete Sprint.
  • Also, refreshing Jira’s cache with CTRL + Shift + R can sometimes resolve UI-related issues.

🔍 Recommended Fix:
First, check if "Done" is correctly mapped in the board settings. If everything looks good there, review the workflow and resolution settings.

Let me know what statuses you're using and how your workflow is structured if the issue persists—I’d be happy to help further!

Hope this helps! 🚀
