Hello,

after looking around I did not see a definitive clarification, and although I think I know the answer I will just ask here so this is 100% clear for both me and others.

In the free plan I can't change the access settings of a project to private. For clarification, this only relates to access (both visibility and permissions to do things like open new issues) for people in my team. Thus, as an example, I can't restrict two projects to different team members.

However, this does not mean that the project is publicly visible to people outside my team. Others will not be able to see it if they have a link to it, as it would be in an open source project that is public to the world (like on Github). Visibility and access is still restricted to the members added to the team.

In my case, as I intend to use Jira alone for now, I will be the only peron who can not only edit my projects, but also the only person who can see them.

Is this understanding correct?

Regards

Thorsten

Hello Thorsten!!!

Thanks for reaching out to the community.

I understand you're seeking clarification on project visibility and access settings in Jira's Free plan.

Your understanding is mostly correct. In the Free plan for Jira, you cannot configure project permissions, roles, or issue-level security. This means you cannot set a project to be private or restrict access to specific team members within your organization. All users who have access to your Jira instance can see and interact with all projects.

However, it's important to note that while you cannot restrict access among team members, the projects are not publicly visible to people outside your team or organization. Only users who are part of your Jira instance can access the projects, so external users without access to your Jira instance will not be able to see your projects, even if they have a link.

Since you mentioned that you intend to use Jira alone, you will indeed be the only person who can see and edit your projects, as long as no other users are added to your Jira instance.

If you need more granular control over project permissions and visibility, you might consider upgrading to a Standard or Premium plan, which offers advanced permission management features.

I hope this clarifies your concerns. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
