We are trying to change the email addresses of some externals to use an internal company email address.
We followed the straightforward steps of going to their account, email and changing it. They then verify the email but are having issues, and the issue is shown below:
Is it because of this connected account? Their work email is in gmail.
Is there something we can do? I am admin.

For account issues like these, I would suggest contacting Atlassian Support directly. They will be able to help you disable the Google account connection, as this may be the problem here.
