Can you configure estimates in next-gen projects?

I'm trying to figure out how to use story points to estimate timelines - why is this so hard?!

I'm new to Jira and I'm so very confused :( I have a next gen software kanban board, and I can't see where to configure the board to do anything useful with the story points that I assigned the tasks. It looks like all the documentation I can find is based on classic kanbans, maybe?

When I go to my board and click the "..." all I see is Manage Rules.

Is the "roadmap" supposed to be an alternative to story point estimation? 

Yes, I'm an admin for the account and the board.

Go to project settings -> Features and enable the Estimation option.
