We are using Jira in Atlassian cloud. Not Service Desk.
I see an option to create a form on new Business type projects but not on an existing Software type projects.
Am I correct that "Forms" is not standard functionality for Software projects?
That's correct.
Forms are only part of business projects. It's altogether now part of application called jira work management.
They are not available for standard software template projects.

Vishwas
Our customers could use Forms in Jira Software Projects. For Change Management, Requirement Management, Risk Management and other business processes, which usually do run Jira Software and not in Jira Work management for good reasons, Forms could be a very useful vehicle collecting data, where a Jira field is not required or the layout options in Forms offer an advantage compared to a Jira Transition Screen.
In Data Center this works and is used frequently.

@Alistair Morrison Forms for JSM has just been released and I am the product manager for this area of the product.
Could you let me know the use cases you could use forms in JSW for?

Hi Simon!
We want to use it to allow customer-facing staff outside our development team to report customer problems, which we treat as issue type = Problem inside our Jira project. It's a second-level support scenario.
One aspect I haven't worked out is whether I can design the form to hard-code the issue type.

Thanks for that @Alistair Morrison it's useful information to be able to feedback to the JSW team.
It is possible today to associate a form with a specific issue/request type and the same functionality would be available in JSW. Here is a preview of how it could work.

@Simon Herd I would use this feature in my JSW projects. It seems like a helpful feature.

@Simon H Is there an ETA on this feature for Jira Software?
We're actually waiting for this to be available on the JSW projects as some of our users are using forms there, before migrating from ProForma to Forms.

Hi Simon,
Most of our bugs should follow policy - certain fields are required like environment, tools used, date and time when bug occurred and so on. We use custom fields for now - but it is overkill because this info is just read-only and will not be searchable. Also our QA team is pretty much independent and we are not very happy to fill issues with QA fields which are only required by them. Ideally they could create their own forms without involving Jira admins.
It would be nice to have forms also for releases.

@Simon H I cannot find where that screen shot came from in JSW. How do I navigate to that today?
We use sprints to manage our marketing projects and I need a request form for other depts (like service and sales) to submit a request to our backlog.

@Simon Herd could you please update us on how work is progressing on making Forms available to JSW projects and also any ETA would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

@Amber Guilbeault Hi - I am in the same position. We use sprints to manage our marketing projects and currently use the Raley Intake Forms add-on (which is an additional cost and rather clunky IMO). This in-built Forms feature would be highly valuable in the software project setup as well. We're unable to shift to a business project setup as we have multiple boards (that represent different marketing sub-departments) and from what I can see, business projects can only have the one board?
Also, does anyone know if Forms can be accessed by those who don't have an Atlassian/Jira account? One of the type of people submitting requests to us currently are those in the business without a Jira account (not worth adding them to the licence as they use it so infrequently) but we need a way to capture their requests easily without having to juggle out of Jira with messages/emails etc
Thanks
Jules

@Julesyes, business projects can only have one board (for now). We're also in need of Jira Work Management projects to have the ability to have multiple boards.
As for accessing Forms without Atlassian/Jira license. It's possible if you have Jira Service Management and you add those users (for who you want to be able to fill in and submit forms) as customers to the help desk portal. Customer users can be added for free so that's one way to go.
I've asked about having the ability to share Forms publicly (anyone on the Internet) and it seems it's on the product team backlog - see comments on this post: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Forms-Articles/Forms-FAQ/ba-p/1963761

I found a feature request that is in the gathering interest state. lets get out there and vote for this thing and maybe we can get this feature added.

Would love to have this feature as well for our organization as soon as possible since we are in early stages of adoption of Jira @Simon Herd , I've voted for the issue and started watching https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSDCLOUD-11282 as well.

The fact that forms don't exist in JSM is archaic thinking. In its simplest context dedicated stable teams are both Net New build and Break Fix support focused. As a dedicated stable team are building solutions they also need a solid stable option for managing intake without error. A form ensures the correct issue type and information needed to capture and vet a external request can be done with limited knowledge of Jira. Image if you will a Internal business partner that doesn't use Jira on a daily bases navigating around fumbling through create screens, it can be daunting and very frustrating.

This seems like a total no-brainer to me... very disappointed to learn that software projects don't support forms.
Jira is a little intimidating for our users and for some crazy reason you can't link to Create Issue. (it appears as a popup).
I want to direct our users via a link to a simple form for raising bugs. Extremely frustrated that this is not possible.

You could, however, use this little 🚪'backdoor' to create forms for JSW and then share direct links with users - simply use the following URL to open Forms configuration in your JSW project:
Of course, replace sitename and project_key with appropriate values.

@Erin Quick-Laughlinyou'll first need to enable Create new issue option and select the issue type(s) to which you want to associate the form. Immediately after you select at least one issue type, you'll see a link that will land you on the general issue create a screen for creating new issues via forms (don't forget to save the changes once you enable this option).
The link example would be:
After that, you can use this 'general' link where users can select a project, issue type, and available form(s).
If you wish to get a direct link to that form you've just created, on the 'general' create issue via forms screen, navigate to that form and click on Copy link. You can then send this link to end-users or use it to embed that specific form on Confluence page for example.

Fantastic! Thank you @Tomislav Tobijas _Koios_ !
I'm off to see what I can automate with this! For others interested in the same, I found this posting response suggesting we can pick these up via something like
{{issue.properties."proforma.forms.i1".state.answers.<formFieldId>.text}} or .choices}} that can be iterated.
or from a direct api call, like this: https://<yoursite>.atlassian.net/rest/api/3/issue/<IssueKey>/properties/proforma.forms.i1

And for follow-up, we were able to create a POC for determining Product Value with a number of form fields, and a jira automation. The form is the same per product, but the automations use their own formulas to match how the Product Leader wants to determine rank for priority.

Hi everyone - i am excited to announce that the forms available in business projects are coming to software projects! We have begun rolling these out - read more about what is coming here

Correct, it's a feature of Jira Work Management, which is available when you create Business Project

This is so needed for many use cases. I can't imagine why you would limit it to make it only available on one project type.
