Can a JIRA Core attachment be a Windows shortcut instead of a file?

Rather than having the entire file loaded within JIRA Core, I'd like to insert the shortcut or location to a shared file as the attachment.

Hi @John Hanley !

I was searching through the Community and came across this question from a long time ago...were you ever able to find an answer? The only way I've been able to do this is with a custom field called "URL" that creates a clickable link to the location.
