Can i give Jira asset permissions but not permissions to projects?

Jerrod Van August 27, 2024

So right now we have a group that we assign users to that access certain projects. For example help desk has access to their project as well as assets.

I am trying to give certain users access to one object schema in jira assets but thats what i want them limited to access.

I have a feeling i might have to change some group memberships but i guess my question is how do i just assign users to jira assets and nothing else?

Hello Jerrod Van,

To grant users access to Jira Assets while restricting them from accessing other projects, you can try this set up.

Step 1: Create a User Group for Jira Assets

  • Create a new user group specifically for users who need access to the Jira Assets object schema.
  • Choose setting -> Jira Administration > User Management > Groups > Create Group (Name something like jira-assets-only) Then add memeber.

Step2: You need to Configure Object Schema Permissions in Jira Assets

  • Choose Atlassian Admin > Assets > Object Schemas (Open the object schema you want to configure)
  • In the object schema settings, go to the Permissions tab.
  • Assign the jira-assets-only group with the required permissions (e.g., Read, Create, Update, etc.) for this specific object schema.

Step 3: Check Global Permissions

  • Jira Administration > System > Global Permissions.
  • Review the list and ensure that the jira-assets-only group only has access to the necessary global permissions

and finnaly you test the access again.

Hope this tips can help you.

Regards,

Michelle
