how to improove the 'add comment' workflow

Jure Zakovsek January 27, 2023

Dear all,

I usually work with tickets that have 30+ comments.

I can order the comments from 'oldest.png' or 'newest.png'. In both cases, the 'Add Coment' is at the bottom of the page. If I want to reply to the conversation inside the ticket, I need to scroll to the bottom of the ticket or use the 'M' shortcut.

When I write my reply/comment I like to see the last comment in the ticket so that I can refer to something important or doublecheck to reply to all questions asked.

With the new workflow, I have 2 options:

1.

If I order comments by 'NewestFirst',
I have to scroll to the bottom of the page to make a comment, and every time scroll up to read the last comment = not user friendly

2.

If I order comments by 'OldestFirst', I have to scroll to the bottom of the page, load comments (10comments / click) and only then after 5 or 6 clicks I can see the last comment + window with 'add comment'

Is there a way to simplify this workflow?
I hope I made myself clear. It is not easy to describe what is bothering me with words, but I hope someone will understand my pain. :)

Hmmm, the Comment in my instance is "sticky". If I have "Newest first" it is 'top sticky' and if "Oldest first" it is 'bottom sticky'. I don't need to scroll to access add a comment.

If you don't want the Comments to 'collapse' you can change

jira.comment.collapsing.minimum.hidden
The minimum number of comments needing to be hidden for comment collapsing to occur. 0 means there will be no comment collapsing.
4

setting the value to 0 which will in effect disable collapsing. This is setting is a System advanced setting so will impact all projects.

Thank you for the reply.
How do I make my comment ''sticky''? Is there a seting for that? I unfortunatelly can't find it :(

I do not believe that there is a setting for this. Is it possible that you are using the old issue view?

I think this is my problem, but I don't think I can select between 'old' and 'new' issue viewer.

The new issue view is the default. If you click on the 'more' ellipsis when in detail view you may see the ability to switch to the old view.
