I have created a custom field of type ‘select list’ and what to force users to select one of the options in the list.

However, as it defaults to “None” and this is a value it will allow the user to save the issue, however, I do not what then to be able to save this as None. I want the user to be prompted to make a decision on what field they should use. Hence making any of the other options in the list mandatory is not an option either.

Can this be done?

I have tried by configuring the field and also look to see if I can do it via the workflow. But no luck.

I welcome ideas.

Go into the "field configuration" for the project and issue type, find the field and set the mandatory flag there.

You are muddling up "mandatory" with "default" as well. "None" is the default for a field - just the selected line when the user gets to to enter the field. "None" represents "no data", it's not actually an option. If you make a field mandatory using the standard method ( with the field configuration), you will still be offered "none", but if the user tries to commit the change, they will be told they can't leave the field empty. You can also set a default option for the field when you're in the list of options, but the default/none setting has nothing to do with the field being mandatory.

Thanks,

I thought that None was going to be a value but looks to be working.
