Kanban board card layout: how to show number of sub-issues

In this page

Customize cards | Jira Software Cloud | Atlassian Support I have seen that it seems to be possible to show the number of issues under an issue, I suppose I could for example show the number of stories in an epic.

On "card layout" I have searched for a field called "issue count" or similar, but did not find it.

A annotated sample card in a Scrum board. The card has an issue summary and icons.

Or is that a feature which is only available in Jira Cloud?

Hi @Martin Härri,

On the kanban board, you can find the count of issues under another issue, based on the swimlanes configured on the board.

Considering that you display the epics and its child stories on the board using the JQL filter, base the board's swimlanes on the "epics". This in turn will show swimlanes/horizontal separations using the epic name followed by the count of issues under each epic.

Something like the below. Each highlighted part is a swimlane showing the count of issues next to the name/summary of parent issue.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

Hello @Martin Härri

On that page I don't see a reference to "issue count". Can you point out what in that article gave you the impression that field exists?

I don't believe there is an Issue Count field natively that keeps track of the number of "child" issues.

Hi, to be honest I have come to the conclusion that this was a misunderstanding. A colleague of mine claimed that this is possible (maybe with an add-in), but the number in the grey circle that I saw, and wrongly interpreted as the number of issues under an issue, is in fact the number of story points. Doh!
