JIRA burndown chart not reflecting sub task completion

DarkKnightess February 26, 2018

My scrum team has been estimating at a user story level.

Each user story is then broke down to sub tasks and these sub tasks are moved to In-progress, Done on a daily basis. However, I am unable to see any progress in the burndown chart and all I see is a flat line. I think the reason is because we have estimated at the story level and till the story is fully marked as Done, it will not reflect in the chart( though we are marking sub tasks as done)

I want a way in which I can handle this situation or is there a way in which my sub task completion can get reflected in the burn down chart. Please note : We have not estimated the sub tasks. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @DarkKnightess ,

The latest version of our Great Gadgets plugin offers this. The sprint and release burndown gadgets have an option to include sub-tasks, which you could use to achieve this.  The plugin is available for both Jira Server (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1218777/great-gadgets-for-jira-server?hosting=server&tab=overview) & Jira Cloud (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1216564/great-gadgets-for-jira-cloud?hosting=cloud&tab=overview).

A story gets burned down when you move it into the far right-hand column.  Estimates on sub-tasks are not taken into account, because you don't burn down until the whole story is done.

The only thing you might do here is get a scripting add-on that can give you a scripted field on the stories that adds up the estimates on the sub-tasks.  You will, of course, still have to complete stories before you get a burn down.
