How would I remove a couple of Epics that are showing up as issues of another epic?

It's unknown how two epics were able to be created as an issue within an epic, but they did. Now how to remove them and also how does this happen?

I'm going to answer my own question after chatting with the customer. This was done using Clone + where the issue was changed from a Story to an Epic without changing the Epic Link and after it was converted to an Epic of its own, it was locked into the Epic that previously the story was cloned from. The solution was to move it back to a Story, and break the Epic link then move it back into a Epic.
