How to mark version as Released on Jira OnDemand?

I have created versions for my product. I am not using Bamboo to build releases, and it looks like that is the only way to "release" a version. Despite what dates I put for a version, they always remain as unreleased.

In the Project Administration -> Versions secton there is a "Relese" button next to each version in the table
