Error in SSL Configuration for Jira

Pooja November 27, 2019

Hi Team,

Whenever we try to configure an SSL for Jira or Confluence, In most of the Customer environment we face errors which takes more time to troubleshoot, and for some, will configure in 10 min without any errors.

Is there any set of rules or procedures to generate SSL certificates?

Regards,

Pooja

Yes, and get them working with Atlassian stuff.  Have a read through https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/running-jira-applications-over-ssl-or-https-938847764.html and tell us what SSL strategy you choose, where you diverge from the guide-path that Atlassian give and what is going wrong.

@Pooja

There are two scenarios of configuring SSL with Jira and Confluence,

  1. 1. SSL end on Jira/Confluence itself
  2. SSL end on Reverse Proxy server and Jira/Confluence run on HTTP
    • This is great if you have multiple services that are going to used shared SSL certificate (i.e. wildcard certificate).
    • This is also easiest way to configure SSL as most certificate providers provide great help guide for NGINX or Apache HTTPD.

The guides provided by Atlassian are also great, my final suggestion will be to go through each guide and document your own steps, this way it will be really simple for you.

If you need help with specific section, do bounce back, community here is very helpful.
