Convert to-subtask not available on some issue type JIRAs

Nancy Abellan October 21, 2019

The option convert to-subtask is not available on some issue type JIRAs but it is available on some other issues within the same project.

I looked a this article https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/the-convert-to-subtask-option-is-not-available-on-the-more-drop-down-967314401.html, however this article describes the situation when this option is not available on all issue types, which is not my case.

Hi @Nancy Abellan

Ideally convert to subtask option should be available for all the Standard issue types.

Can you please check the ticket, which you want to convert to subtask (where you are not getting convert to subtask option) is already having subtask ? If it has already any other subtask , you can't convert that parent request to subtask. It will not give you the option. Please check.

JIRA will not allow you to convert an issue to a subtask if that issue already has subtasks of its own because subtasks cannot have subtasks.  If you do wish to have further nesting like this, you could administer new link types of "is a parent of" and "is a child of" and use the links to create the nested relationships as deep as you would like.

However in jira only task has the subtask form by default

First you have to create and configure a subtask for the desired issue type ,then you can use that functionality

Hope this helps
