We have created a series of issues using the child feature for a Story in next-gen. We realize that the child issues were all created as subtasks and we want to change them all to task types of Issues. Bulk edit and move issue do not allow this to happen nor can we click on the subtask in the key and be shown a task issue type as being available.
How do we perform this conversion or change from subtask to task issue type and keep in the existing issue of story?
Hi @Derek Small
Sub-tasks are children of a task or story. Tasks are at the same level as story, so you cannot move a task under a story.
If you have a sub-task that you want convert to a task, you can:
If the sub-task was not yet in progress, it will be moved to your backlog.
Best regards,
Bill
This does assume that you have "task" as a story-level issue type.
You could add an issue type of "task" and set it as a sub-task, that would enable you you to change sub-tasks to tasks without moving them out of the issue of which they are currently a part.

Thanks Bill for the response. I didn't realize that Tasks and Stories were at the same level and thus cannot have a Story -> Task -> Sub-Task hierarchy It would be nice to be able to move a Task to another story without having to convert it to a sub-task if I understand correctly.
I appreciate your timely response and the knowledge imparted,
Cheers

I fix this using "Convert to Issue" under the ... button at the right side

There's no bug here, what do you mean?

I need to do this in bulk, and individually clicking is creating a challenge. Is there any way to do this in bulk?

I would like to do the same as Elizabeth has mentioned. We are running Jira Cloud and it is very inconvenient to do the changes one by one

Run a search for the issues you want to convert, then select "bulk edit" from the options menu.
You will be offered several options at this point, and "edit" is the one you will instinctively go for. Do not. Use "move" instead.
"Move" will ask you for a project and issue type to move to. Issue type is the important one for this job.
