Can data be pulled from Confluence into Jira tickets?

Rupa Jain April 2, 2018

Hi,

If I create a table/set of tables on one of the Confluence pages, Can this information be pulled into Jira tickets?

For example using a plugin like nFeed that helps to extract data from outside Jira?

Thanks,

Rupa

Hi Rupa, There is a way to create multiple Jira issues directly from Confluence's tables. You may want to check the "Create issues from inside Confluence" section here

https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/use-jira-applications-and-confluence-together-427623543.html "

If you're using Confluence Cloud, however, be aware that there is currently a bug opened https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-35077 that the Jira Issue link won't be created if there's a large number of issues from the table.

Hi Nazri,

I am not looking at creating new issues from Confluence, but pulling some data into an already open ticket in Jira.

For example, I am in the process of creating a new Jira ticket, from one of the drop-down fields I have selected a certain Customer and based on that particular selection I want the other Jira fields to populate automatically. Like the Customer selected is 'ABC', then the corresponding values for fields like Personnel or Product should be pulled from a table stored in a Confluence page.

Can this be possible?

Also if when I create a table on a page in confluence, where is the data of that table stored? Can it be accessed through some query from outside of Confluence?

Unfortunately, I dont think thats possible. The tables are stored within the page itself in the content and not as a column in the database. It is also a restricted function to query the database for cloud instances. Sorry :(

We are using the Server instance. Will it still be possible?

Hello,

nFeed would be able to be linked with Confluence through its REST API. However, as long as the Confluence REST API does not allow to retrieve page contents, nFeed will not be able to pull data from a Confluence table.
Page properties would be a possible workaround with nFeed -> https://developer.atlassian.com/server/confluence/content-properties-in-the-rest-api/

Here is the full documentation about what can be done with the Confluence REST API -> https://docs.atlassian.com/ConfluenceServer/rest/6.8.1/

Hi Nicolas,

Will the plugin nFeed on Jira side be enough for this? Or will we need to install nFeed plugin con Confluence as well?

Also if the table in Confluence is an Excel file (the contents of which are being displayed on a page), in that scenario will it be possible to pull data into Jira with nFeed on Jira side?

Hello Rupa,

nFeed only exists on Jira Server. No version has been developed for Confluence.
No more luck, as long as the Confluence REST API does not allow to retrieve an Excel file content, nFeed is unable to pull Excel file content.
