Can a sub-task have estimations?

I need to estimate the sub-tasks before starting the sprint. Can this be done in any way? Can the estimations of the sub-tasks provide the total estimation of the story?

Dear @Gal Brenner,

unfortunately you cannot and it does not make sense to estimate sub-tasks in Story Points. As the name says this relative estimate is made for stories, only. What you could enable is normal time tracking and add an effort in hours/days to each sub-task.

Thanks for the quick reply! How can i add the normal time tracking? Can this be done before the sprint is active?

Time Tracking in Jira is independent form any Agile Board behavior. It belong to "Classic Jira" functionality.

By default it is enabled. To configure it globally jump in admin section to tab issues -> time tracking.

To be able to estimate an issue, you have to add the system field called "time tracking" to at least the edit screen of an issue. Then, when you edit an issue you have two new fields called:

Original Estimate + Remaining Estimate.

As soon as somebody logs work, the remaining estimate gets adapted automatically.
