Slack integration question: how do you get Slack (or the Jira bot, whatever) to automatically create links to Jira tickets when a ticket ID is mentioned in a chat. I'd expect this to work in any DM or channel discussions.
I found this thread on the subject but the answer is somewhat confusing to me and even then if I follow the instructions it doesn't seem to do what I want.
I can get something to work when messaging the Jira bot directly but I can't get it to work when messaging others.
Hi Matt,
I understand that you are trying to integration Jira Cloud with Slack but it sounds like you might be running into some problem here. While this integration is intended for you to be able to create Jira issues, and see summary information of Jira issues in Slack, this expected to work within specific channels where the Jira app has been added. This does not work within direct messages in Slack in my own experience.
That said, we have step-by-step instructions on how to set this up over in https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/use-jira-cloud-for-slack/
A note about this setup, there is an expectation that the user following this setup guide will have both site-admin rights within Jira and be an administrator of Slack in order to make sure that the integration component can be installed within each. I can see from our internal side of things that your account does not appear to be a site-admin of your Jira Cloud site. So you might want to reach out to one of your site-admins in Jira for help completing this setup.
I hope this helps.
Andy

Thanks for trying to respond but I do not have a configuration problem, eventually I was able to connect Slack channels to Jira and see it function.
The problem is 2 fold:
1. The documentation is not very clear so I had to do a fair amount of experimentation to understand what exactly it does and does not do.
2. Jira Cloud with Slack does not do what I want. All I want is a simple unobtrusive link to the ticket when the identifier is mentioned in any slack channel or DM that is part of my organisation. The current implementation creates a whole new post that is very disruptive the flow of communication.
Mattermost has a plugin that does exactly what I want here:
https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost-plugin-autolink
The more I look into it the more I think Slack simply does not allow this type of functionality.

I'm very surprised that the JIRA/Slack integration doesn't have the function described.
When I type an issue ID in Slack, I want it to automatically be turned into a link to that issue in JIRA. As it stands now I have to:

no, but I fully expect a company to be born around providing us a slack/jira plugin for 200$ a user per month that does this for you.

@Kostya Kostyushko Actually it turns out you just need the slack integration plugin:
in a channel:
`/jira connect`
then pick a project and a channel.
then click manage.
in the resulting jira confiration web page, remove `created`
now when someone types a jira ticket looking code, the bot will post a message after that linking the item.
