We use a Jira Service Desk (cloud) project as our main helpdesk and I would like to incorporate some of the Opsgenie functionality in to a new workflow.
Would I need to move the entire project to a new Jira Service Management project to enable this functionality?

I don't believe you would need to move the project, or do anything to it in general. You'd simply need to configure a JSM integration in Opsgenie, and follow the steps in our documentation to get JSM issues creating Opsgenie alerts: https://support.atlassian.com/opsgenie/docs/integrate-opsgenie-with-jira-service-management/#Configuration-in-Jira-Service-Management
