Use dynamic values as default response in Forms

Pascal Tanzer February 4, 2025

Scenario

We are setting up a form to be filled out by internal staff members via JSM Portal. In some cases we want to pre-fill fields with user related values like i.e. name, department, position or role in project.

Example

One feld we want to have on our form is reported by. It should enable the user creating the issue to select the reporter. Default the user should be pre-selected. (just like the field: Raise this request on behalf of an agent sees, when creating an issue directly in jsm)

Solution

We don't have one yet. Hoping for your input (we've considered automations, to fill some of the linked issue-fields once the form is submitted, but this doesn't make this information visible to our users, when filling out the form.

Hi Pascal,

Thanks for your question on the community.

I understand that you are looking for a way to auto-populate fields like “Reported By” with the user’s details (name, department, etc.) while filling out the form, and ensure that these pre-filled fields are visible to the user before submission.

Jira Forms use sections, which allow you to dynamically show or hide content based on the user's response to a previous question. In a nutshell, conditional logic in Jira Forms (formerly known as Proforma) allows you to create dynamic forms that change based on how a user interacts with them.

I suggest you review the below page and let me know if you have further questions -
