Set field value according to specific text in the Description

Morning.

I have a new user form which gets sent to our JSD and creates a ticket.  I would like it to automatically populate some fields within the ticket according to the content in the description field.

The sample content of the form is as below:

Requestor: Kelly Phillips

Start Date: 22/01/2022

HOD: Test User

I would like the Date Due field in Jira to automatically populate with the 'Start Date' data.

And I would like the Reporter field in Jira to automatically populate with the 'Requestor' data, which is 'Kelly Phillips.

Is this possible?

Hi @Kelly Phillips

Where does the information get sent from?

It might be possible to link the source system to Jira more efficiently, to send the data to the corresponding Fields, rather than to the Description.

This might be possible using Automation otherwise - but I think it could be relatively complex.

Ste

The information is originally sent via a Nintex form in our Sharepoint environment to our service desk support email which is then linked to our Jira Service Management project.

Due to resource/skill issues, we haven't created the form in our Jira project.

Jira is also not linked to our AD directory, so is unable to reference user names to their relevant departments.

Thanks

Kelly

Hi @Kelly Phillips

I'd recommend prioritising implementing the Form into Jira.

It will be significantly easier than trying to make this work in Automation (which I don't think is necessarily possible for the user, as this works off Account ID, not name/email).

Ste

Thanks, but unfortunately, with the current budget tightening, this isn't a high priority.
