Sending project notifications from your own domain

We have JSM Cloud, in the final stages of UAT testing prior to migration. One issue is that we are trying to make use of our own domain to send project specific notifications. We have setup the SPF and DKIM records are required by Atlassian in order for our mail infrastructure (Exchange Online) to trust their sending infrastructure however the notification are still coming through as unverified sender.

Anyone else having this issue? and if so what did you do to resolve it.

There is a tenant allow/block list that can be updated with all the 30+ IP addresses that the mail could originate from, however this seems like such a tedious task to a relatively simple configuration that is currently present on the Jira server edition where one can specify your own sending infrastructure that is trusted.

This has been implemented - JSDCLOUD-5614 is now closed/addressed.

You can add DNS records to your domain that allow Atlassian to send email from your own custom domain. This is documented here:

What are the steps for setting up custom email addresses?

Hello @Dominique Fourie,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Checking the details of your domain, I can see that it’s verified and DKIM and SPF records configured according to our documentation

With this said, I’m afraid to say that the issue you are facing is related to the suggestion below:

The workaround, for now, is to whitelist our domains and IPs:

If you have any other questions regarding this matter, please let us know.

Kind regards,
Angélica

Hi,

Thank you for the feedback.

As for the Mail configuration that we have on Jira server at the moment, we are able to specify our sending infrastructure and have Jira send mails from our custom support mailbox.

I see this configuration is not present on JSM Cloud. To be clear the only way to use your custom email address for notifications would be set under project specific settings in the notification section?

Any timelines on when the DMARC validation issue would be resolved ?

Regards,

Dominique

Hi Dominique,

Yes, on Jira Cloud the only way to set an outgoing email address is directly on Project settings > Notifications.

Regarding the DMARC feature, the last update was posted today on the description:

Update from Product team (15th September 2021)

Hello all,

I wanted to provide an update on the progress of this project.

Everything is tracking well, some slight delays here and there, but nothing problematic.

At this point we expect complete delivery in mid-late November, but we will be working to make an EAP available in late October for a small group customers. I will update again as we move into this phase.

Cheers,

Ben.
