SLA appearance/visibility on a Board

Liam Whatling June 19, 2024

Hello,

Could someone advise me if its possible for SLAs to be visible on a project's 'Board'. We are aware that the 'Queues' can be edited to show various SLAs, but we find the 'Board' is far more useful for our way of working and so having the SLAs visible on the cards.

I can see there are the dots on cards which can tell us how many days the issue has been in a column/status, but we'd like to see SLAs themselves on the cards.

Hey Liam,

Couple of ways you can do this...

  • Go to configure board, then Card Layout and add up to 3 custom fields there - you can search for your SLA name (e.g. "Time to first response") and it will now show you the SLA based on the display format you have selected (either Date Centric or Time Remaining)
  • You can also go to Card Colours and configure JQL to colour the left edge of your cards on the board according to the JQL, e.g.
    • "Time to first response" >= remaining("20m") AND "Time to first response" < remaining("30m")

Hi Jovin,

We had considered using an automation to change the card colour depending on its SLA if we couldn't get an overt indication or icon for the SLAs.

I think all three of the custom fields are already in use as it stands, otherwise this would have been very helpful suggestion.

I don't suppose you know if the dots which show the number of days a tickets been in a column for relates to the SLAs in any way?

Hey Liam,

The dots just indicate the time in column irrespective of the SLA itself.

No need for automations if you use the Card Colours with the JQL queries as the criteria for it - check out the article here for more: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/customize-cards/#Configure-card-colors

Thats good to know. We'll avoid using the dots to monitor anything time related in that case.

Funnily I found that recently and have been using it for SLAs. Thank you for the suggestion though, much appreciated.
