New service Project ?

Jyotsna Palbabu September 5, 2023

Hi, I need to create a simple service management project with two stage approval process. What should be the next step once a project is created in Jira instance? Like to create the Request type first or the issue type first? Can someone please outline the sequence of things to be created?

Hi @Jyotsna Palbabu

Once you create project, by default the project gets associated with default issue types, requests types, workflows & default fields. If you dont want to use default issue types then create custom issue types first & then request types, request types are associated with your issue type, so has to be created after issue type creation.

To set up approval process, you need to modify workflow & setup approvers on desired statuses. You can follow this article for detailed setup process.

Hope this helps!

@Jyotsna Palbabu -

Welcome to the community.  When you setup a new JSM project, you can customize your new project in the following way -

1) Configure your project's request type - https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/categorize-customer-requests-into-request-types/

2) Conduct WF customization of your issue types used in your project by adding approval process - Look at this reference link (https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/set-up-an-approval-stage-for-a-request/)

Those can be your first steps that I would recommend.

Please also review the materials (topics) on how to setup company managed projects for your env - https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/configure-a-classic-service-project-as-an-administrator/

Hope this also helps.
