We have a custom field that was originally created as plain text instead of rich HTML text. Since we cannot change the field type directly, I am creating a new rich HTML text field with a similar name.
It's important that the existing plain text field remains visible in prior tickets for reference, but it not be visible or fillable in new tickets.
I'm unsure whether it would be better to move the existing text data to the new field or if this is even possible. Could you please advise on the best approach?
In Jira/JSM custom field's setup, all you have to do is to change the "Rendering" from plain text to Wiki rendering to give you the HTML format. You don't need to create a new field.
You just to access the "Fields configuration scheme" from Settings >> Issues >> Fields >> Field Configurations to configure the scheme by locating the field in question. You will see an option of "Renderers" from "Default Text Renderer" to "Wiki Style Renderer".
You can also just access the Fields configuration scheme from project settings too.
Hope this helps.
Best, Joseph Chung Yin
Thank you, I have done this in our sandbox environment, does it take time to work?
As tested and still plain text after I made the change
