Moving issue to a new project. What happens to the connected URLs?

Ben Weisman December 8, 2021

Hello,

I am looking to move a couple thousand issues into a new project. With that said, these are issues that are linked out to various places outside of JIRA. What happens to these links? Is there a redirect?

If not, what is the best way to accomplish what I'm trying to do without losing the previous URLs entirely?

Hi @Ben Weisman

Jira keep's track of the old keys and will perform the redirect for you. So old url will stay valid.

I hope it helps.

Thanks @Ravi Sagar _Sparxsys_ . Is this the case for Cloud and Server?

@Ben Weisman Yes, both Jira Cloud and Jira Server has the table to store the old issue key and auto redirect the users to the new issue key if the change is made within the same site.

But if you migrate this project to another Jira Cloud (or from Jira Server to Cloud), the old issue key data doesn't get migrated.
