Manual approval

Hello,

I have a customer who would like to approve certain issues.  I have read about adding Approval functionality to the workflow, however there is not a certain type of request that will require this approval.  So I would not want all request to be in approval status.

Is there a way to turn on the Approval functionality via Activities within Issue?  Or do you have to set it up using Workflow?

Also when re-using a workflow do you recommend copying an existing workflow?

Thank you.

Hi @lapacquah.bryant

Approvals are only available via workflows.
What you could probably do:

  • Create a new workflow (copy of your current)
  • add a parallel path to your workflow with an additional status
  • add a the approval to this path

With this setup, you are able to use the approval step manual, only with the issues you want to get approved by your customer.

Hope this helps

As the main path of the workflow will not be touched (because an additional one will be added) you could for sure use Task.

Hello,

I was not sure about the parallel path, however see attachment and confirm if this is what was meant.

Thank you.

@lapacquah.bryant yes thats what I meant. I had a more linear workflow in mind, so it wrote parallel path 🙂

What I did was made a copy of the workflow that is currently in use.

To make an inactive workflow active it has to be associated with a workflow schemes, correct?  I been reading however wanted to ask.

Thank you for your assistance.

Question, I am adding approval step to actual project workflow.  I want to add a new Transition from To Do to Approve step, however its giving me a message "You cannot perform this operations on a draft workflow".  Should I save even though I have not complete steps for adding approval.  It appears to put workflow in draft format each time I attempt to add approve transition.

Thank you.
