For my service project, I want to use the Teams functionality, but I don't need all the Incident Management options. Nor do I want all the unnecessary added clutter that comes along with them.
Is there some way to enable just the M$ Teams functionality alone?
And no, I'm not interested in anyone's paid plugins, please
I opened a Support case about it, the engineer said (paraphrased) that no, only service projects that have the Incident Management "feature" enabled can use the chat features because of the stupid Work Categories. You either get ALL the things or none of them. yey..

Hi @Chris C_ , it has been a while since I connected teams with a JSM project. However, I do not recall any specifics that are associated with incidents. Are you using an ITSM project where Incidents come into play? How is that presenting itself in Teams exactly?

OK I had already gone through the connect-microsoft-teams-to-your-service-project to get the tenant connected. I have enabled the Chat "channel" in my service project. The Service Management project "SYS" I created without using any templates, we don't require all the unnecessary fluff for our workflow. I also have another project just like that one called "TEST2", for hopefully obvious reasons..
When I enabled the Chat channel on SYS, the "Microsoft Teams Chat" field did not appear on any of my existing request types. When I tried to add it to the appropriate Screen, the search box could not find it, I couldn't find it manually looking down the list either. It seems the Teams field is a "system field", and it does not show up in the lists on JSM Cloud like screenshots show system fields being visible on the Data Center version.
I've seen on docs and YouTube videos that the chat settings are found in the "Incident management" screen of Project Settings. SYS doesn't have that, because I don't have the Incident Management Feature enabled. Its a whole bunch of clutter I don't require. So I enabled it on TEST2, which turns on the Incident Management in Project Settings. But I was still unable to get the Teams field in my existing test request types. Incident Management did enable the "Work Categories" thing, which seems .. eh.. "maybe useful to someone else" we'll just say. If I change a request type from the "Unassigned" Work Category, to "Incident", now the Teams field shows up. Also, Zoom and Slack, both of which we don't use, but I can't remove them from the request type fields which seems short-sighted.. but whatever.
According to this doc, you have to enable the entire feature set to get the Work Categories, which I have no use for :: add-an-itsm-category-to-any-of-your-service-projects
I'm trying to find out if it's possible to enable just the chat-creating-linking ability of the Teams field without all of the extra fluff
