Jira Canned Response - How to Add Attachment?

Brandon Fluckiger August 9, 2023
Hello!
I'd like to add file attachments to my Canned Responses in Jira. I can't find any way to do this. When I click and drag files (.jpg, .pdf., .docx, etc.) Chrome just opens up a new tab displaying the file.
But here's what's strange. Apparently, this issue didn't exist a month or two ago when I first created canned responses. I have canned responses WITH file attachments in them, and they work perfectly (see below snip)! But strangely, when I edit a canned response or try to create a new canned response, I just can't add any more attachments. I'm sure when I first created these I was able to click and drag files right into it. This doesn't work anymore.
What's the fix?
Thanks!

@Brandon Fluckiger

You may be mixing up the canned responses pro app with the out of box canned responses functionality.

Hi Kian. Can you please explain? I'm new to Jira and Atlassian.

@Brandon Fluckiger

Jira cloud did not always have the canned responses templates out of the box. Now it does.

Based on the screenshot I think you were likely using a plugin. https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1211016/canned-responses-pro-templates-for-jira?hosting=cloud&tab=overview. You are viewing one of the canned responses built using the app, not the out of box functionality.

Thanks for the info. I'm still confused though... The screenshot is exactly how canned responses have always looked. Nothing about the UI or options have been changed recently as far as I can tell. I've only been using this software since June of this year.

So if I was using this plugin before but not now... would anything have changed besides the feature allowing me to add attachments?

Bigger question - what would you say the solution to this problem is?

@Brandon Fluckiger

That functionality is supplied by the app vendor, but apparently it was only released 1 week ago..

How are you trying to add the images? You need to click on the + sign and select "Attachment"

I don't have that option I'm afraid.

That is because you are using the out of the box functionality.

Brandon Fluckiger August 9, 2023

Gotcha. So why was this working a month ago?

And what is the solution? Do I need to add this plugin?

Brandon Fluckiger August 9, 2023

What's odd is that I was able to do this a month ago, and the attachments are still there in my previously-made canned responses as proof. I just can't add attachments anymore. And I don't think I was ever using this plugin. It's weird.

You already have the plugin. You just need to create your canned response using it.

I see! I gave it a test and it's working like you said. Thank you!

So now I've got plugin canned responses, and out of the box canned responses. Two places I can create and use canned responses, completely separate from each other, each with their own set of canned responses. I'll just need to remember to use this plugin version to use the canned responses I want since this version of canned responses lets me attach files. Would you say this is correct?

This still doesn't answer the question why the out of the box functionality let me add attachments before and now it doesn't. But that's fine since the plugin works for my needs.

I'm not sure. I can't get any images in my canned response with OOB functionality.

It is fair to say that they are totally separate.

Absolutely. I'm glad we could get to the bottom of the issue!

Hi,

I have a similar issue. I don't have the plugin (I'm sure about that).

I have the Add image icon (also the Out of the box functionality):

screenshot_15.jpg

and I can add attachment, but the size of image has been minimized.

Below is the original size of the image I want to add in the canned respons:

screenshot_11.jpg

And this is how it looks like in the canned respons:

screenshot_16.jpg

Does anyone have any idea why the image has been reduced?
