I'd like to make use of the functionality of a software dev project (company managed kanban board, epic/story/task, system fields) along with some of the features of the work management project (main UI setup of it with the ribbon of summary, board, list etc)
Is this possible or is there a simple way to build such a project?
You cannot have Kanban Boards in JWM Projects or the "Simplified" View of JWM in Software Projects.
However, you can have Epic, Story and Task issue Types in your JWM Project and also change the visible fields on those. Just go into Project settings to configure. Also, Kanban Boards in Software Projects have a timeline and the Summary page of JWM can be mimicked by Jira Dashboards.
So no, you cannot "combine" the actual features, but you can have similar features in either Project type if done correctly. It depends on what type of license your users have.

You can not make issues work as though they were in a different project, no.
The closest you can get is to use your Kanban or Scrum boards (create via the Software project, or as a personal board) to include issues from other non-JSW projects. Issues included this way will still follow their project settings, but will take on JSW functions like appearing in the backlog so they can be ranked, travelling across the board, being included in the sprints, and so on.

Hi Andrew,
You can certainly use information from both projects to accomplish some things. What exactly are you wanting to do?
