How to sanitise a jira issue export?

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to automatically receive a sanitized Jira issue export. By sanitizing, I mean I just want an export of the issue summary, description, attachments, linked issues, and comments. The rest of the info, such as reporter, assignee, priority, labels, etc., is to be excluded.

Is there any plugin that can help me or any scripts that can be run?

One option is to save your JQL as a filter so that you can customize the columns displayed in that filter. Once you do that you can select an export option which uses "(filter fields)" e.g. Export CSV (filter fields) so that the resulting file only contains the fields you saved as part of the filter.

Hi @Rick Westbrock

Thanks a lot for this suggestion; however, I've already tried this one. I'm able to get a summary and description, but not all comments from the ticket exported. I'm actually looking for a summary, description, and all comments from the user and agent.

Is there any remedy here?

Regards,
Anirban

Sorry I missed that you need comments also, that makes it more tricky and I am afraid I can't help there as far as a native solution.

A quick search in the marketplace for "export comments" filtering on JSM returns Exporter - Export Issues to Excel CSV PDF as the first result, the tagline is "Export issues with transitions, comments, attachments (Server/DC), PDF (Server/DC), Excel and CSV export & bulk link issues" so that may meet your requirements.

Hi @anirban_banerjee ,

You can try using our app Data Processor for Jira. Free for your needs. In the CSV data source section you can select only those fields you really need to be exported.

Feel free to reach our to us if you have any additional questions.

Best regards,

Hi @anirban_banerjee ,

Great to connect with you too!

The functionality of the Free app should be sufficient for your needs. However, if your requirements grow, you can always give a try to the PRO or Xray version.

All the best!

Hi @anirban_banerjee

if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. You have full control over which fields/columns you want to include, and can export to Excel/Google Sheets or CSV in just two clicks. This is how it looks in action:

comments-all.gif

I should add that JXL can do much more than that: From support for configurable issue hierarchies, to issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

You may already know that you can trial any app for free for 1 month, and depending on the size of your size, it may be free forever. So if an app is an option for your, perhaps try a few and see which works best for you.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes
