How do I type new lines into a reply to a customer using the iPad app?

When replying to a customer ticket using the iPad app (Jira) pressing the return key does nothing and does not create a new line in my response.

This greatly limits the type of responses I can send from the app.

I use a 2019 12.9” iPad pro with the standard Apple magnetic keyboard.
