I've really struggled getting anywhere trialling the Jira products or even getting any support that helps me quickly test things out and I think a large part of the issue is the fact that when I created a JSM project, I've selected one of the pre-made templates like IT Service Desk which has stuffed it all with tons of crap that I have no idea what it is or does and as a result, has made things very difficult to work with.
Is there not a way of just creating a JSM project from a blank template with just the mandatory components and then I can actually create something tailored to our business?
Yes there are quite a few templates and they can be quite confusing for anyone especially if you’re just getting started to be honest. Atlassian has been revamping the templates trying to make this easier to get started but it is still confusing for new folks.
My instance may be different than yours but there should be a basic by IT template. The question is what type of process do you need to follow? That should help you pick the right template.
here is some documentation on templates - what-are-the-project-templates
I have this issue also. I need to be able to customize various aspects, and keep finding things missing in different templates... this makes it really hard to be 'agile' and adapt! For example I need a sales board that I can edit the way the issues are viewed, and have custom fields... I can't access board settings for some reason in that template to change things around... why?
A blank slate would be great to build things from the ground up - why on earth things are locked down is a mystery...
