How can I update a shared Jira project template without affecting other projects?

Hi,

We have a Jira project that we use as a task template when creating other client projects. I wanted to update the issue types in this project template, but the issue type scheme is shared across 31 projects. I’d like to adjust the issue types to include only Bug, Task, and Subtask. If I remove the other issue types, will that affect the other projects currently using this scheme? How can I update the template without impacting the other projects?

Yes, if you make a change to a shared scheme it will affect all projects that this scheme is shared with. The only way to not affect all projects is to create a new scheme and associate that with the template project and then make the change.

Thank you, Mikael. Would it be possible to create a copy of the current scheme and link it to my project template so I can adjust the issue type?

Yes, you can copy the existing scheme and then associate it with the project.
