How can Assets be migrated from Jira Data Center to Cloud or from one Cloud to another instance?

Currently, the only way to migrate assets from one instance to another is to export assets from the source instance and then import it to another Jira instance. But in this case, if you want to migrate the entire object schema, the hierarchy of the object types, object icons, dependencies, etc will be lost.

Insight Assets Backup & Migration Addon has the ability to migrate the entire object schemas from one Jira instance to another. The source instance of the assets can be both, a Cloud or a Data Center, but the destination instance must be the Cloud.

Migration includes migrating all types of object attributes, including user and group attributes. For example: when the attribute has values of users or groups and if the user and the group exist on the destination instance, the value will be retained.

Firstly, to start the migration, you need to have a valid license of the plugin on both, the cloud and the data center instances.

Step-by-step instructions for migrating from one cloud to another cloud instance:

  1. Install Insight Assets Backup & Migration for the cloud on both the source and the destination instances

  2. Set up CURRENT CONNECTION in the source instance.

  3. Click on Restore for the desired schema to migrate

  4. Click Backup Now to start the backup of the schema

  5. After the backup is completed click Select the last backup

  6. after selection, choose On another instance, and in the Target Instance field select New target instance

  7. Fill out all mandatory fields and start the migration.

Step-by-step instructions for migrating from Data Center to another Cloud instance:

  1. Install Insight Assets backup & Migration for the destination Cloud instance.

  2. Install Insight Assets Cloud Migration Assistant for the source Data Center or Server instance.

  3. Set up CURRENT CONNECTION in the Cloud instance if you are a first-time user.

  4. In the Data Center / Server to migrate field, click Add new.

fill out all fields and add the instance and click save.

  5. After adding the Data Center or Server instance, click Sync schemas. After the sync is completed you can see backed-up schemas from that instance in the list below - Synced schemas.

  6. To restore backed-up assets object schema, click on the restore for the specific schema.

  7. After clicking the restore button, choose the desired backup for the schema and click select. After selecting the backup, choose desired destination instance or object schema and fill in all mandatory fields, after that click on Restore.

  8. After the restore is completed, the schema that was located in the Data Center or Server will now appear in the Cloud instance.

Here you can see the full documentation for the application.

Hello @said kouzibry ,

We have great news!

Our development team just released an update containing object history migration.

The migrated objects will have the newly created attribute "OBJECT_HISTORY" which contains the history of the original object.

Hope this resolves your issue.

Best Regards,

This addon isn't available for Server. Searched and it came up with no results. Is it available for Server?
