I recently changed my support email address from Microsoft Office365 to Proton Mail.  Now my support@mydomain.com email address entry in Jira Service Desk will no longer pick up the emailed issues and create a ticket.  When I try to edit the existing support@mydomain.com entry I can only change the type not the underlying email system settings.  If I try to add an external->Other email using the same email address but the mail service mail server for proton says it is 127.0.0.1 port 1143 TLS but Jira will not connect.  I have never seen a mail server address be the local host 127.0.0.1 but many sites say the very same thing.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

127.0.0.1 is always "home" - it means "this machine", it's not a remote address.

It is very likely that your Jira is running on a different machine, so you'll need to set up the email server to be remotely accessible.

Yes I knew that was a local host address not sure why it is saying that that is the proton email server address as proton email is cloud based not local.

Proton Site for IMAP:

IMAP Host: 127.0.0.1

IMAP Port: 1143 TLS

Requires SSL: NO

USERNAME/PASSWORD

Also I only use Jira in the cloud.

Again, it's because 127.0.0.1 means "this machine" - it really does mean "the current machine".

It is usually referred to as "home" (you can even get t-shirts that say "there's no place like 127.0.0.1")

You need to give your system the IP address of a remote email server, not "home".

"Proton host for IMAP" can never be 127.0.0.1 unless you are running a Proton mail server on your machine.
