Discovery setup

Hi everyone,

Jira is so new for me! I have a question. According to the Jira documentation, I need to run discovery which I have downloaded from marketplace and import the data into Jira assets.

When I run the discovery-s in the command line. I was expecting some kind of app would open so I can set up the configuration. Instead of that, it scans perhaps and shows some files with .pat (pattern). I later tried to import these pattern files into Jira, but it did not work! I don‘t know what I did wrong.

Can some please help me with this?

Thanks

Hello,

I understand you cannot open Discovery app. Make sure your prompt is at Discovery directory and try to execute "Discovery.exe -s". After that, Discovery must appear on your screen.

Here is a documentation that might help you:

Hi Gustavo,
thank you for your message. I was managed to install the discovery tool. But I was not successfully to fetch the data. For the test I just want to fetch the data from the jira server itself, but I could not find any data! The log file appears to be ok for me.
discovery-filecopy.JPGThe only file I see is .DAT that after I trigger Agents to scan.
discover-tirggeragent.JPG

The log file seems to be ok.

Hi @Jira Stuff

I see you are using Discovery agent to scan your servers. That is fine. Just for information, you can also scan Windows devices through the network without an agent.

According to your log file, Discovery server should have fetched that .dat file from your Windows server and you should have found it on Discovery/scans directory.

There is a button on "Service" tab at Discovery app that says "Trigger agents to scan". That triggers your agents servers (Jira server) to a local scan and the results must be transfered to Discovery server. Use it and check your Discovery logs to find some hint.

Note: Confirm if it's possible to Discovery server reach your Jira server through 51337 (default) port.

If you still can't fetch that file, give a try to a network scan, where Discovery server will try to connect according to your configured servers on "Scan Settings" tab.

This documentation might help you:

I hope that helps.

Hello Gustavo,

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain. I was using the discovery agent but could not retrieve the data. After talking to my manager, we don't need the agent so I uninstalled it.
My questions:
1) Do you have a simple tutorial or video on how to set up Discovery and import data into Jira? I must have done something wrong in the settings.

2) Do you know if there is a way to retrieve data from SCCM and Azure Endpoint Management?

Thanks,
Cheers

Hi Gustavo,
after some research I found Assets - SCCM Integration Tool. I think this is the best way to do it. The data is already there, I just need to get into it to set it up properly.
Have you had a good experience with this tool? We would need professional help in the form of a consultant?

Regards,

Cheers

Hi @Jira Stuff ,

There is an old video from Discovery on Youtube that might help you:

Sorry but we haven't used SCCM or Azure environment with Assets yet. I don't have enough experience with that.

Hi,

we end up to use the Azure, because we are going to off SCCM  and it works very good.
We had to hire a specialist to all this for us.
