Custom Fields Reports or Dashboards

I'm trying to create reports using custom fields.  Please advise if it is better to create reports or dashboards.  This reports/dashboards will used by leadership.  Also, please provide a link to tutorials or videos on how to create reports or dashboards.

Can you elaborate on what kind of report you would like to generate? Do you have any specific statistics or trends you would like to look at?

The ability to filter by custom fields using the dashboard. I created a filter that list all the issues and columns that I wanted displayed.

  1. I need it to function like Excel and have the ability to filter by certain criteria. I'm hoping that I do not need to create over 50+ filters in order to achieve this. 
  2. I would like have a report that displays if certain fields were not populated and display the date the issue was created (display a timeline of how long it took for the field to be populated)
  3. Currently, we do not need any statistics or trends
