Custom Field - pull data from external source

Ricardo_Gomes May 18, 2022

Hello!

I need to pull data that will populate some custom dropdowns in Jira Cloud, so I was wondering what would be the best/easiest ways/options to go about it.

I am looking into a couple of plugins that do that, but was also wondering if there are any other alternatives out there that I could make use of without having to develop my own connector app.

One of the integrations we need is stored in a MSSQL in SharePoint, but we could also move it somewhere else if that makes it easier.

I was also wondering if I can populate a dropdown field based on data that is stored in Jira (say from an JQL query result, for instance).

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Posting here after a lot of research just in case someone has the same use case -

Found 3 really useful plugins that allow you to connect to an external data source (2 are paid, 1 is free). The connectivity varies for each one, with some also supporting external files, REST APIs, and Sharepoint - but all of them supporting most databases such as SQL, MySQl, PostgreSQL, etc.

1. FREE app: https://docs.bitband.com/external-data-for-jira-cloud/getting-started

2. PAID: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1219994/external-data-for-jira-fields?tab=overview&hosting=cloud

3. PAID: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/23337/elements-connect-external-data-fields?tab=overview&hosting=cloud

I am about to test them but found them really useful.

Cheers.

Happy to see you found Elements Connect @Ricardo_Gomes

If you didn't find it, I posted an article on how you can use Elements Connect to query the Jira REST API to populate fields.

If you have any questions while you're testing it, or need some help, don't hesitate to contact the Elements support team:

Hi Laura and others,

have you got any experiences with free plug-in Bitband for jira cloud? We are looking for for something like that.

Thanks for tips Ricardo.
