By mistake I have two accounts in Jira. The account that I use daily (X) has not the right email address. I want to change that to another email address (Y). Because Y also excisted in Jira I have removed that account. So far so good. But if I try to change the email address X into Y I got an email that the address Y is already in use.

When an email is associated with an Atlassian account, it's not possible to use the same email on another account.
Just to make sure that it won't affect anything, can you please let us know if the account Y is being used on another cloud instance? Are you using this account on any other Atlassian product?
If you are not using the account Y on any Atlassian product, you can safely delete the Atlassian account for this email, but you will have to wait 14 days for the email Y to be completely deleted. To delete this account you must go to id.atlassian.com and click on "Delete account".
We have a workaround for that, so you don't have to wait for 14 days:
Please, open an incognito window on your browser (just to make sure that you are not logged in with any account) and go to id.atlassian.com.
Then you will need to change the email for email Y to another email (let's call it Z) that you have with the same domain, you can create just a test email in order to do that.
Once you change the email Y to Z and confirm that you changed (you will receive an email to confirm that you want to change the email), email Y won't be associated with the Atlassian account anymore and it's free to use on another Atlassian account. After that, you can delete the Atlassian account for email Z (it will take 14 days to delete).
Then, go to id.atlassian.com and log in using email X and change it to email Y.
