Best practices to migrate from Service Desk to JSM?

We have a small project on Service Desk, but a lot of history in old tickets. I'd like to migrate to Jira Service Management. I've seen a few of the resources about getting started with ITSM projects, but what is a best practice for steps to migrate from a SD project to a JSM project? Any steps we should take to make sure transferred data remains clean? Any special considerations before rolling it out to users?

I'll leave it up to the rest of the Community to add their thoughts and experiences but I can shed light on the practice of migration. Migration is not available as of yet and is coming soon.
